Events Preview - Friday Night Jib Fights & Recon Tour
Each and every summer the event proposals roll in with great idea after great idea. There are so many fun events out there; luckily they all want to stop here in Park City. Unfortunately for me, I have to review those proposals and determine which ones we can fit in our calendar. If you are feeling a little broke after the Holiday season, our first two events are both paying cold, hard cash. Get up here and get paid. Without further ado, here is a look of what’s to come in the New Year.
January 4, 2013 - We’ll be ringing in the New Year with the return of the Friday Night Jib Fights. Snowbasin kicked off the event series December 14 with a packed house. We’re looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and of course Jeremy Cooper’s creative park set up. Registration starts at 4:00 p.m. at the base of the First Time Ticket office. More of a plan ahead type? This year we are introducing online registration, check it out. We’ll be welcoming am and open skiers and riders, men and women divisions once again offering cash prizes for the open division and swag for the ams. Check out the event listing here and some footage from last year’s finals.
January 12-13 – Our friends at Monster Energy have teamed up with Hookit to launch the inaugural 2013 Winter Recon Tour. The mission of this tour is to provide a better platform for snowboarders and skiers of all ages and abilities to compete and showcase their talent. With more than $50,000 in cash and prizes on the line, competing riders have the opportunity to win big. The Recon Tour includes Ski Slopestyle on Saturday, January 12 and Snowboard Slopestyle on Sunday, January 13. Register and learn more at www.therecontour.com

After a hectic freeski season and competing on an injured knee, Monster Energy freeskier Tom Wallisch found some time at his home resort of Park City in Utah to stack some footage before he underwent season-ending surgery. Watch as he displays why—even at half speed—he's still the best in the game. The Sochi Games are just days away, and while we'll be rooting hard for every Team USA athlete - from the curlers to the figure skaters - we'll be cheering especially hard for 2 athletes in particular: because they're our very own! Slopestyle snowboarder Sage Kotsenburg and slopestyle freeskier Joss Christensen are both Park City locals and both part of "I Ride Park City" All Stars. Both will be in medal contention, and we couldn't be prouder to have them as representatives to the world both of our mountain and their hometown of Park City.
