Friday Night Jib Fights Comes to Park City
Guest post by Kara Rennie
Last years Friday Night Live rail contest series raised some debate as to which resort in Utah has the best rail slayers in the state. Thus, the creation of the Friday Night Jib Fights. The series has expanded to nine events, three at each Park City, Brighton and Snowbasin. The finals will be held at Park City on March 30 with the podium riders from each stop invited for double the prize purse and an overall winner of the series.
The first stop went off at Snowbasin and will now be moving to 3 Kings Terrain Park at Park City for the second stop on January 6, 2012. This years set up will be designed and built by the PCMR Terrain Park staff to include two lines of 3 features each as well as a bottom feature to total 7 features.
I can't say how it was for the spectators at last years events, but as a competitor the vibe was much different from the day. Hiking the rails kept us warm and although I didn't know many people, It felt like I was hiking with my friends and we were all pushing eachother to try new tricks. The fact that it was at night made everyone stoked on something new. Announcers Pops and Tron bring some entertainment on the mic to contribute to the already amazing vibe. Last years night riding contest brought a number of skiers and snowboarders who threw down and raised the level of progression.
Cash and prizes will be distributed between the top 3 athletes from each category of AM or Open, girls and guys, skiers and snowboarders as well as a product toss for everybody. Registration starts at 4:00 pm at the bottom of 3 Kings, cost is $15 per event and the show starts off with AM riders at 5:30 followed by Open riders at 6:00 pm.
