Visa U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix Wrap Up
Huge crowds, incredible athletes, great venues, wonderful weather - enough said - the VISA U.S. Freeskiing Grand Prix presented by The North Face was awesome!
This past Saturday was the final day of competition and each of the four events had huge implications for the naming of the first ever U.S. Freeskiing Olympic Team.
In slopestyle, Park City All-Star Joss Christensen claimed victory in Day Two's Mens Slopestyle competition, while youngster Julia Krass grabbed the top spot in Day Two's Women's Slopestyle. But, in even bigger news Gus Kenworthy and Keri Herman joined Bobby Brown, Nick Goepper and Devin Logan on the U.S.Slopestyle Olympic Team.
Under the lights, in the Eagle Superpipe, local Angeli Van Laanan scored top marks in Day Two Ladies' Halpipe while Lyman Currier grabbed the win in a tightly contested matchup with Aaron Blunck and Gus Kenworthy in Day Two Men's Halfpipe. For the Halpipe team Angeli, Maddie Bownman and Brita Sigourney made up the Women's Olympic Team while both Aaron and Lyman join David Wise on the Men's Halfpipe Team.
Congratulations to the Freeskiing Team and we look forward to seeing you all shine in Sochi!
In the days leading up to their walk down the ESPYS Red Carpet, olympic gold medalists Sage Kotsenburg and Joss Christensen jetted around the country with the Woodward Team. The private jet stopped at Woodward Copper so the pros could shred the summer snow terrain park, then off to Woodward Tahoe to skateboard, bounce on tramps and high-five some campers along the way. The adventure ended in Los Angeles at the ESPYS where both athletes were nominated for Best Male U.S. Olympic Athlete. At the end of the night, Sage took home the honors adding an ESPY to his trophy collection. Go to WoodwardTV.com for more!
Camp Woodward will welcome the first-ever Olympic gold medalists in men's slopestyle to the Woodward Copper camp in Colorado on July 14th and Woodward Tahoe on July 15th. The two Olympic slopestyle gold medal winners will lend their expertise this summer to campers this summer at Camp Woodward. Campers will get the opportunity to hang out, train and grab photos with both Joss and Sage. There is still time to sign up for the summer camps. If you can't make these dates and there are always pros dropping in.
The Sochi Games are just days away, and while we'll be rooting hard for every Team USA athlete - from the curlers to the figure skaters - we'll be cheering especially hard for 2 athletes in particular: because they're our very own! Slopestyle snowboarder Sage Kotsenburg and slopestyle freeskier Joss Christensen are both Park City locals and both part of "I Ride Park City" All Stars. Both will be in medal contention, and we couldn't be prouder to have them as representatives to the world both of our mountain and their hometown of Park City.
